Get away...with the pharaohs

20th June 2003, 1:00am
While archaeologists wrangle over whether a recently rediscovered mummy in the Valley of the Kings really is the fabled beauty and powerful queen Nefertiti, dead for 3,400 years, why not see if you’ve raised a Howard Carter by having a go at a spot of Egyptology too?

Explore Worldwide’s Family Adventures programme has expanded to include some extra dates, among them a 14-night Summer with the Pharaohs trip departing on August 18. As well as a donkey ride into the Valley of the Kings and an expedition to and tour of the temple at Karnak by horse-drawn calesh, the journey includes a train ride from Luxor to Aswan, three nights sailing down the Nile on a felucca and a visit to the Sphinx and Giza pyramids.

There is time to go snorkelling in the Red Sea off Hurghada, and a camel ride across the desert is obligatory. The price of pound;895 for adults and pound;820 for children between eight and 11 includes return flights from London, transport, hotel and boat accommodation and some meals.
