Girls too busy ‘texting’ to talk

8th February 2002, 12:00am
NEARLY a quarter of British schoolgirls text-message their friends more often than they talk to their families, according to a study of more than 400 carried out on behalf of the Guide Association. A fifth claim never to talk to parents and siblings, two in five have never boiled an egg, and half do not know how to manage a budget. The association says girls are not being taught basic life skills either at home or school, and it plans to use the survey’s findings in training leaders of its activity programmes.
