There are times when it is good to belong to the National Union of Teachers. There are two possible answers to the present teacher shortage: cut the Mickey-Mouse initiatives and make teaching an attractive and rewarding career, or find a cheaper source of labour. Well, no difficulty in seeing which way the Government will go.
It is a safe bet that when the classroom assistant programme is imposed there will be yet another avalanche of paperwork supposedly intended to ensure that quality education is being delivered, whilst ensuring that it isn’t. If the NUT is standing up for real teachers in real classrooms, that’ll do for me.
