(Photograph) - Glasgow pupil Andrew McCall emerged as one of the star performers in this year’s exams - an Advanced Higher A pass in computing and maths along with a Higher A in craft and design.
He had already acquired university entrance qualifications last year, aged only 16: five Highers with A passes in chemistry, computing, maths and physics, and a C pass in English.
Such triumphs are all the more remarkable given that the Castlemilk High pupil was recently diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome, a form of autism. “I wasn’t sure about university,” he says. “I thought another year at school would give me more experience. I hadn’t decided on a course and hadn’t researched things.”
His Advanced Higher results could give him direct entry into second year, but he has opted to go into the first year of an MEng degree in computer and electrical systems at Strathclyde University.
