Global Express is a subscription service offering rapidly-produced but good-quality resources in reaction to important news items. Livestock Farming provides the wider background for TV pictures of smouldering animal carcasses. It looks at the costs and benefits of intensive farming within a global context, at the relationship between farmers and supermarkets, and at the details of how foot-and-mouth disease affects the livelihoods of cow-keepers in several part of the world. There are also some good classroom activities for eight to12-year-olds, to help transform shock headlines into more informed arguments.

A subscription to five mailings of Global Express, plus an introductory study pack Tune Into the News, costs pound;15 from Room 66, Development Education Project, 801 Wilmslow Road, Manchester M20 2QR.
