THE Government confirmed its new education targets this week including the first national goals for 16-year-olds.
Ministers pledged that by 2002, 95 per cent of 16-year-olds will have gained at least one GCSE pass (this year’s figure was 93.4 per cent) and 50 per cent will have achieved five GCSEs (46.1 per cent this year).
