The Golf Foundation, a charity set up 50 years ago to organise coaching and competition in the game for schoolchildren, has joined forces with clubgolf, the initiative funded by the Scottish Executive to increase school participation in the sport. The foundation’s activities in Scotland will now be fully integrated into the clubgolf programme.

“This is a significant milestone for the future of golf in Scotland and we welcome the Golf Foundation as an official clubgolf partner,” said Hamish Grey, chief executive of the Scottish Golf Union.

“The foundation is at the forefront of junior golf development throughout the British Isles and brings with it a wealth of experience that will be crucial in helping us achieve our target of making golf accessible to every youngster in Scotland.

“This is an exciting time for Scottish junior golf. During the clubgolf pilot phase in 2004, the number of juniors playing golf in clubs grew by over 4 per cent. With the experience and resources of the foundation, we can build on this success by introducing even more youngsters to the game.”
