The Great A-level Debate

“It is outrageous that Gove is planning to put A levels in the hands of a bunch of professors. What do they know about sixth-formers? Handing over A levels to the will of academics in their ivory towers is utterly misguided.

“I think we forget sometimes that A levels need to serve the pupils as much as HEemployersthe economy. Not all pupils will want to go to university, but does that mean they should be excluded from advanced-level academic study?

“I’m fed up of poncey academics bemoaning first years who don’t have basic knowledge. If you think they’re thick, don’t let them in in the first place. Selection is perfectly legal in HE, you know.”
