Head honoured

Philip Lawrence, the murdered London headteacher, has been named as someone who has had a major impact on British society.

In the revised Oxford Dictionary of National Biography, Mr Lawrence features alongside historical and political heavyweights including Queen Victoria, George Washington and William Gladstone. Rock stars Sid Vicious and Freddie Mercury are also recorded among the 54,922 people who have made a difference to the way we live.
