A former headteacher arrested in connection with the loans-for-peerages enquiry will not be charged, the Crown Prosecution Service said this week.

Des Smith, the former head of All Saints RC technology college, in Dagenham, Essex, was the first person to be detained by detectives investigating the row after he told an undercover reporter that honours could be obtained in return for donations to academy schools.
