The Government is to fund business managers for primary schools, writes Adi Bloom. A scheme, announced this week by the National College for School Leadership, will fund 24 business managers from 2008. The NCSL anticipates an extra pound;2m being added to its government allocation next year to help pay for the scheme.
Advanced business managers will work either in one large primary or across a cluster of smaller schools. School business directors will be employed by larger federations of primaries. The college claims that employing a business manager will free up as much as 30 per cent of a primary head’s time.
Mick Brookes, general secretary of the National Association of Headteachers, said it would reduce the bureaucratic load widely seen as an obstacle to head recruitment.
