The Qualifications and Curriculum Authority has told exam boards to remove questions from A-level and GCSE papers that reinforce stereotypes. So the Diary was perplexed to read the ad from the Scottish Executive in last week’s TES, pretending to be a maths question comparing the blood pressure of teachers commuting in London (a steep red line) with that of unnaturally calm teachers in Scotland (a flat green line). Before you all rush off to apply for teaching jobs in Scotland, bear in mind that deep-fried Mars bars aren’t that good for your heart, either.
