Get students to look at aspects of everyday life in ancient Egypt and write their own Egyptian letters. Find inspiration at the British Museum: tinyurl.comoabvs

KS 23

Students should be able to enjoy “using” the Victorian Penny Post. Get one class to live in one part of the country and another to “emigrate” to a far-flung part of the world and write letters to each each other (or emails).

KS 34

Students could recreate their own First World War standard-issue postcards.

These can be found locally, or try www.alvey.biznewmexww1

KS 45

Students might try analysing some of Winston Churchill’s letters. What kind of man do they reveal? Alternatively, they could debate the value of the letters of an individual such as Churchill. A good starting point is at www.churchill-society-london.org.ukPrivLttrs.html
