tag Staff and management closed ranks this week over claims by the Daily Record that teachers at Holyrood Secondary in Glasgow were “in terror of pupils”. The newspaper claimed four boys were suspended in separate incidents which included a flamethrower attack and possession of weapons. Ken Corsar, the city’s director of education, said: “It is unfortunate that a number of totally unrelated incidents have been used in an interrelated way as being symptomatic of a deep malaise in the school.” Willie Hart, Glasgow secretary of the Educational Institute of Scotland, said: “The suggestion that teachers are in a state of terror or panic does not accurately reflect the mood of the staff, and there has been no discussion or desire for a walk-out.”
