Blues and all that jazz

Iconic jazz saxophonist and composer John “Trane” Coltrane was born on 23 September 1926 in Hamlet, North Carolina. Why not celebrate his birthday and his unforgettable contributions to the world of jazz and engage in some new musical investigations with your pupils? In this jazz and blues collection, we have gathered resources to help you get started.

Jazz and blues are exciting, engaging styles with which to form the basis of music lessons throughout KS3 and beyond. Pupils are often surprised at the influence both types of music have had over more commonly known genres today, such as Ramp;B and hip hop. These resources, all shared by the teachers in the TES community, can be used to expose pupils to influential styles and techniques and inspire enthusiasm for new music. There are also some general materials helpful for planning and covering fundamental musical concepts.
