Improving skills shortages

5th January 2001, 12:00am
NVQs and all that: management, standards and innovation. One-day conference for principals, vice principals, chairs of governing bodies; senior management, training providers, awarding bodies and all those associated with post-16 provision. NVQs are seen by the Government as the way to improve skills shortages in the economy. Have they been the panacea for these ills? How do managers contro work-based activities and are the standards achieved fit for the purpose? What of the position of key skills? There has been enough talk but too little sharing of experience.
