Independent but together

We were pleased to see your article about the work by Manchester academy and William Hulme’s grammar school to raise achievement in south Manchester (“Academy’s brightest go private”, TES October 14) was supportive. We would like to point out the huge success the academy has had with pupils from deprived areas.

Both schools are independent; both have the opportunity for creative collaboration well supported by governing bodies and sponsors.

In short, our partnership is an expression of the success of both institutions and neither is the senior partner.
