Might I humbly suggest to Brian Scowcroft, chair of governors at the Richard Rose Central Academy in Carlisle, that if he wants to avoid his school yo-yoing in and out of special measures every few years, he should stop appointing chief executives and executive principals to run the school and instead appoint a headteacher (“Troubled academy is first to be placed in special measures twice”, 1 March).
The head could then employ a business manager to do the executive’s job, or even outsource the role, as is done for other support services. Above all, Mr Scowcroft should remember that he is responsible for children. It is a school, not a business.
