Maggie Atkinson, director of children’s services in Gateshead and former president of the Association of Directors of Children’s Services, has been nominated to be the next Children’s Commissioner by Ed Balls, the Schools Secretary.
The current commissioner, Sir Al Aynsley-Green, will come to the end of his five-year appointment on February 28, 2010.
