Kirk code trains 10,000

More than 10,000 Church of Scotland members have been trained in child protection, the General Assembly will hear next week.

The Kirk’s child protection unit has trained a further 1,500 as co-ordinators since its code of practice on child safety was introduced two years ago. Voluntary church workers who come into contact with children will be subject to vetting under forthcoming regulations, the Kirk has confirmed.

A central system is “imperative” for tracking voluntary workers as they move congregation, following concerns about registered sex offenders and church links.
