The official publication of local authorities’ key stage 3 results has been delayed after the problems with marking this summer, the Government has announced. Council-by-council performance tables were originally due to be published in August, but were then postponed by the Government following advice from the national statistician because thousands of papers were still not marked.

The Government, which had left open the possibility of publishing local authority results in October, has now decided not to do so before next month, while marking reviews are taking place.

This year’s test marking descended into chaos, with tens of thousands of papers returned to schools late and ETS Europe, the company responsible, having its contract terminated.
