Labour plans to drop GCSEs

A future Labour government would scrap externally assessed GCSEs at the age of 16 in all subjects except English and maths in one of the biggest reforms in a generation, TES understands. The proposals discussed by shadow ministers follow the rise in the school-leaving age to 18, which calls into question the need for an exam at 16, sources said.
