We’re delighted to report that our old comrade John Cairney, who sadly passed away recently (TESS last week), was a newspaperman to the very end - despite this being the former teacher’s second career.
The family tell us that the crossword-loving lad was buried with full literary honours, taking a copy of The Herald with him - and a pen. It would be churlish of us to note that this was his journal of choice, not our own esteemed organ. We’re sure it was nothing we said.
But John should be content: we hear there are quite a few Heralds in the great media house in the sky.
