Thousands of teenagers from schools in and around Leeds were last week encouraged to complete an NHS Teen LifeCheck.
The promotion - at the Be Sporty Fun Day at Leeds Rugby League Club in Headingley - was part of the national roll-out of the service, an online interactive quiz to offer health and lifestyle information to 12 to 15-year-olds. The NHS is keen to see the service used in PSHE lessons.
The launch of the scheme will be supported by a marketing campaign to raise awareness of the service among young people. Advertising on bus shelters and popular teenage websites will feature the faces of four teenagers each asking the question: “Am I normal?” Posters and postcards will appear in schools, and a roadshow will be visiting shopping centres this summer.
One of those attending the Headingley event, Jessica Aspey, 13, a Year 9 pupil at Highfields School in Matlock, Derbyshire, said: “I didn’t used to eat a lot of fruit and vegetables because I preferred chocolate and crisps.
“I went on the NHS Teen LifeCheck website and really liked it. I learned how to be healthy, and stay healthy.” ed.
