Let boys’ choirs become cool

25th September 1998, 1:00am
It was heartening to read Patrick Salisbury’s article (“Choirs invisible”, TES, September 4) on the efforts being made to promote choral singing.

As yet, however, little has been said about encouraging young boys to sing. Girl power and laddism have together conspired to make singing a very uncool thing for boys.

The way round the problem is for boys’ choirs, in addition to mixed children’s choirs, to be set up. This will make singing a much more acceptable activity for the young male.
