Letter to Michael Gove

21st December 2012, 12:00am

Dear Mr Gove, I am a Year 11 student and my friends and I are worried about sitting the English exams because it seems that we may not get the grades we deserve after we have worked so hard for them. This is a terrifying prospect because it can cut short our dreams and aspirations. My ambition is to go into law, but I am nervous that I might not get the grades because of an obstacle that is beyond our control. Our teachers are also apprehensive because the exam boards keep changing their minds and so they are no longer confident about the grade boundaries. They are worried because they see us panicking and cannot reassure us. It seems criminal to throw our efforts back in our faces by changing the grade boundaries and claiming exams are too easy. We feel very let down by the government.

Emily Ottley, Year 11 student.
