Letters Extra: Why should three-part lesson rule?

15th November 2002, 12:00am

The latest Ofstedgovernment imposition is the three part lesson. Who hasn’t used it at some time?

Nobody has yet explained why this is the way that ALL lessons have to be structured now.

For practical lessons, involving work over an extended time, are we not just wasting time by stopping the work of the class for a plenary session?

Someone told me some thirty years ago that if you teach for forty years your style of teaching is in fashion twice.

Is not the compulsory three part lesson just another aspect of “the king’s new clothes”?
