Library funding falls

Public libraries cut their spending for children by 5 per cent last year, according to the Library and Statistics Unit. It predicts a further 9 per cent fall for the current financial year, leaving an average spend of just Pounds 1.39 per child. Falls are particularly marked in Scotland and Wales, and in the new unitary authorities in England.
