Long hours in private sector

14th April 2006, 1:00am
Almost two-thirds of independent school teachers regularly work more than 50 hours a week, according a survey of 1,000 by the ATL, which has the most private school members.

More than a third said their work-life balance had deteriorated in the past two years. Private school staff have no right to time for planning and assessment. Half felt stress because of workload.
