Love among the fishes

Richard Kidd has collaborated with his wife Lindsey on another highly satisfying sequel to Monsieur Thermidor, once described in The TES (September 12, 1997) as “Wallace amp; Gromit meet Clochemerle and Jacques Cousteau”.

Lobsters In Love: A Whirlpool Romance (Frances Lincoln, pound;10.99), again features salt-dough models by Lindsey, who trained as a sculptor. A horoscope prediction of “romance on the waves” is fulfilled when Monsieur Thermidor meets a “beautiful lady lobster”, rescues her from pirates, and marries her on his birthday. The wedding feast is celebrated at his own underwater restaurant, Chez Thermidor.

The artwork and the recipe for salt-dough included in this remarkable book will inspire hundreds of copycat displays, so look out for various doughy and fishy seascapes in your school hall soon.
