Make mine local

27th April 2007, 1:00am
Young people in east Stirling have been studying the history of their communities in an arts project involving the mining museums.

One group researched their family roots in their villages and produced 3-D family trees signifying the communities and their roots in mining. Others depicted a tree in ceramic tiles, the leaves bearing names of young people and their family members. Another group, at the Fallin Outdoor Mining Museum, helped renovate a “man rider” that transported miners along the mine shaft and visited the Scottish Mining Museum in Dalkeith, where a fourth group made a film with a mining theme.

The project was supported by Stirling Council’s youth work team and funded by a pound;22,900 grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund.
