Maths - Resource of the week - Thinking time

17th August 2012, 1:00am

Add some sunshine to your lessons with Ryan Smailes’ PowerPoint, a set of 115 maths puzzles on a yellow background.

How to use it

Project one of the puzzles on to the board at the start of the lesson and encourage pupils to try to solve it from the second they enter. Each problem has a catchy title such as “Flag up a problem” and “That is nuts”, and the bright backgrounds and images are a visual treat. They wake up sleepy pupils and get them stuck into maths right away.

Why is it useful?

With 115 different conundrums all in one PowerPoint, this is a great starter collection that you could use throughout the year. Not only does it help to improve logic skills, it aids classroom management too, getting pupils to focus from the very beginning of the lesson.
