* The public consultation on the new primary maths curriculum will not be allowed to change a word, a leading QCA official has admitted.

Lynn Churchman, QCA principal maths officer, told a conference in Liverpool that the content of the draft curriculum for primary maths was “sacrosanct”.

She said: “There has to be an alignment between the national curriculum and the numeracy strategy.” Schools will start teaching the numeracy strategy from this September. That way they will not have to make another change in 2000, she added.
