Missing in action

WHAT if you held a walk-out and nobody noticed? The National Union of Teachers had no such problems when 250 of its delegates marked school minister Estelle Morris’s arrival at their conference by getting noisily to their feet and stomping out in front of the television cameras.

What has only just come to light is that members of the Associaton of Teachers and Lecturers held their own boycott at last month’s annual conference in Belfast ... but being a shy, retiring lot, they didn’t tell anybody.

It appears around 50 or 60 delegates were missing for the minister’s keynote speech. They had checked in advance when she would be appearing and simply didn’t turn up. Sweet.
