Money matters

The Royal Bank of Scotland has launched a free financial education programme adapted for S1-S6 pupils.

Face2face with Finance, which has been available to English schools through NatWest, is split into modules which can be downloaded from the bank’s website by teachers for use in personal and social education, maths, home economics, social and vocational skills and business education.

A bank representative can provide in-school support.

For younger pupils, there is basic banking information about cheques, accounts and budgeting. For S3s upwards, there is a simulation whereby pupils are put into small company teams to tender for a catering contract.

They have to compete on price, quality and presentation, developing numeracy, communication and other core skills.
