More students stay in Wales

More Welsh teenagers have applied for university places in Wales in September, where they will not have to pay variable student fees of up to pound;3,000. Figures from the Universities and Colleges Admissions Service show a 1.8 per cent rise in Welsh applications, to 19,132, of which 16,501 have opted for courses in Wales (up 6.7 per cent). University applications are down 3.9 per cent in England.
