Falkirk Council is not the biggest fan of the National Union of Schoolmasters Union of Women Teachers, despite the fact it is now billing itself as “the UK’s biggest teacher trade union”. For many years, the authority has maintained that the organisation does not exist and cannot therefore be recognised.

How irritating it must be to have one of its own schools, Bainsford primary, winning a prize worth pound;300 in a competition run by the NASUWT to celebrate cultural diversity as part of Black History Month.

The title of the song specially penned for its entry? “Come Together”.
