* The National Union of Teachers’ ballot on boycotting key stages 1 and 2 national curriculum tests had 13,224 responses in the first two days after 100,000 primary school members received their voting papers. John Bangs, NUT head of education, said that the response indicated the strength of teachers’ feelings about the issue and said that he expected a high turnout when the ballot closed on December 15.
