Further education colleges are to receive an extra Pounds 650,000 to help train young people and long-term unemployed adults.

Brian Wilson, the Education Minister, said the funds would allow colleges to provide courses for jobseekers’ allowance claimants before the package of New Deal measures is launched fully in April. “It is a recognition of the role which the Government expects further education colleges to play in delivering the New Deal,” Mr Wilson said.
