No payout for slap case head

HEADTEACHER Marjorie Evans, cleared on appeal of slapping a 10-year-old pupil in the face, is unlikely to get compensation for her 18-month ordeal, the National Union of Teachers said. Mrs Evans was suspended on full pay from St Mary’s junior school in Caldicot, Gwent in 1999, after she was found guilty of the offence by magistrates. The verdict was later overturned. The NUT said as she had remained “stoic and strong” she might be unable to claim physical or mental harm. Mrs Evans said: “It has never been about the money, it is the principle. Sorry would have helped.”
