No problem with the principle;Letter

AMID all the publicity which has surrounded chief inspector Chris Woodhead recently, I fear that little or no notice has been taken of yet another of his characteristic misrepresentations of his critics.

A GMTV interviewer on February 7 allowed to pass unchallenged his assertion that “there are some people out there who continue to resent the principle of external inspection of schools”.

If he looked hard enough he might find a few who do indeed resent all forms of external school inspection. But the overwhelming majority of his critics object to aspects of present inspection arrangements, not the principle.
