Travel industry tycoon John Boyle, who owns Motherwell Football Club (which remains in administration), has bailed out Vis Entertainment, the “struggling computer games company”, as a Sunday newspaper put it.
Vis chief executive is none other than Chris van der Kuyl, “visiting professor of digital entertainment” at Abertay University in Dundee, who happens to be a key adviser to First Minister Jack McConnell on enterprise in schools.
The young professor also advised MSPs on why teachers should encourage young people to become bustling entrepreneurs like, er, him.
Van der Kuyl will presumably be better placed now to comply with the dictum from Nicol Stephen, former Deputy Education Minister and now transport supremo, who advised at the launch of the education enterprise initiative last year that people should have the courage to fail before they become successful, as they do in the United States.
