BBC Midlands Today TV presenter Genelle Aldred opened the first Bright Space Creative Careers Festival at mac (the Midlands Arts Centre) on 28 January, aimed at encouraging and advising 13 to 18-year-olds on routes into creative industries such as architecture and digital media.

Yorkshire-based music teacher and saxophonist Graham Lyons has spent 20 years designing the Clarineo, a light, easy-to-use woodwind instrument specifically for children.

In the run-up to London 2012, double Olympic gold medallist Rebecca Adlington ran a swimming masterclass at Rosebery School in Epsom, Surrey.

School council representatives and GCSE students of citizenship at St Andrews CofE High School, Croydon, paid a visit to the Houses of Parliament to take part in Student Voice workshops and listen in on questions in the main chamber of the House of Commons.
