Gillian Shephard, the Education Secretary, has asked the Office for Standards in Education and the School Curriculum and Assessment Authority to work on proposals for criteria for a high quality nursery curriculum. The move ties in with Government plans to offer education to all four-year-olds.

OFSTED is thought to be using the nine areas of experience and learning set out in the Government-commissioned Rumbold Report, Starting with Quality.
