Ed Balls, our blessed Schools Secretary, has recently been coming in for some criticism in the ever politically correct Guardian letters page. With good reason.
Balls’ problems started after he was quoted in a QA article in the same paper as saying that his most embarrassing moment was being mistaken for the head waiter when he was waiting to speak at a City of London dinner.
A strange thing to admit, one might argue. Certainly one Angus Watson thought so, and commented to that effect in a letter to the esteemed liberal organ.
“What a wonderful sign of our cultural and political unity that the most snobbish comment of modern times should come from a Labour minister in The Guardian,” he wrote.
It’s a fair point.
