Only connect, Years 6 and 7 teachers told

Secondary schools are not doing enough to build on the achievements of their primary colleagues when children move up to key stage 3, says the Office for Standards in Education. A report, Changing Schools, says liaison between the sectors is improving, but teachers knew little about how children were taught and assessed in their partner schools. The pastoral aspects of the change were good, and children with special needs were well catered for. The introduction of the national literacy and numeracy frameworks in lower secondary was beginning to improve continuity. The sectors should stop complaining about each other and talk more, said the new Chief Inspector of Schools, David Bell.
