Oppose trust schools

Any proposals to transfer schools to trust status, which is under consideration in East Lothian, should be opposed, SSTA conference delegates agreed. Kaye Macaskill from East Lothian warned that her council’s plans might amount to an “abrogation” of its duties. She feared it would lead to more bureaucracy, add to workload and adversely affect the curriculum. Monique Dreon-Goold warned that trust schools might be tempted to refuse places to children with additional support needs as being “too costly”.
