Outta space

13th February 2004, 12:00am
On April 5, 1804, the sound of cannon fire was heard in High Possil, near Glasgow. But it wasn’t cannons that residents heard, but the sound of a meteorite falling to Earth. Known as the High Possil meteorite, it is one of only four to be found in Scotland. To celebrate this unearthly landing, The Hunterian in Glasgow will be ruuning “2004 A Space Oddity” from April 2 to September 30. A portion of the meteorite weighing 151g has been with the Hunterian since 1810 and will be re-displayed for the exhibition. A number of special events and activities will also be held to celebrate the centenary of the landing. Tel: 0141 330 4221; email: hunter@museum.gla.ac.uk; www.hunterian.gla.ac.uk.
