With regard to your article “Charm your way into Oxbridge” (TES, November 30), what I said - and what any literate reader would have understood me to say - was that our admissions procedures are not biased against the less well-off; the social bias is that of an inegalitarian society whose economic and social inequalities have been magnified by New Labour.
John Denham, minister for innovation, universities and skills, understood me well enough; I can’t think why your reporter couldn’t.
