There is a way for teachers to have the same status as doctors and lawyers (“The view inside the classroom”, TES, October 31). The training courses for these professions should be reduced to six weeks for “high fliers” and a year helping in the High Court or a hospital for the rest - with the lightest of supervision, of course. Presumably, the same length of training will mean the same status.
Teachers are probably the least trained of all professional groups. Meanwhile, the General Teaching Council sits quietly by as professional standards are diluted.
